Women at Blackjack
Once upon a time men were more resolute and courageous and women much more resigned and obedient sitting at home and knowing only stuff they were allowed to know. Times have changed and now those things that seemed to be constants during many years only can provoke a smile. Considering all aspects of our life the social position of men and women turned upside down. The same situation is even in gambling world! We know many successful blackjack players from the past and present, but the number of ladies who play card games today and do this successfully is really amazing!
Attractive and Smart
In Blackjack Hall of Fame the most prominent personalities, who made a contribution in development of blackjack, are gathered and none of them is a woman. However, do not be under a delusion, thinking that women cannot gamble or that they are worse than men in card games. They excellently know all peculiarities of the game and many of them have great skills in blackjack. With no doubt, soon some of women-players will take a place in the Hall of Fame due to their numerous winnings and fine skills. Actually, there are some claimants upon this position who deserve it.
Eleanore Dumont
This woman deserves to be treated separately as she was the very first professional blackjack player in the history of the game. Eleanore was born in France and then in 1854 moved to the gold-mining Nevada City, CA. Her origins was always shown in European refined manners. Dumont opened her own blackjack casino and called it 'Vingt-Et-Un'. There she always dealt cards and as a rule Madame Dumont won. In spite of her winning or losing the woman knew how to please her customers and all players got free glasses of champagne. In 2006 she was nominated to the Hall of Fame.
However, there are a lot of talented women players who in our times, such as Cathy Hulbert, named 'Cat' in gambling world. She has been called 'the best female gambler on earth' and showed incredible skills to many at innumerable tournaments.
